House of Commons Visit

As part of activities in National Volunteering Week almost 50 Community Concern Erewash volunteers were invited by local MP Liz Blackman to meet the Minister for the Third Sector, Ed Miliband. The purpose of the National Volunteering Week event was to share innovative approaches to recruiting and supporting volunteers from across the community, young and old, able-bodied and people with disabilities. Volunteers shared their experiences with the Minister as well as with Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern England and Dr Kevin Fitzpatrick, Commissioner for Wales for the Disability Rights Commission. The event was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council and was one of the events for the ESRC Impact grant Broadening the Base of the Volunteer Workforce undertaken by Professor Irene Hardill and Dr Sue Baines.
