Community Concern Erewash is participating in a research programme funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). We worked on an earlier ESRC study (R 0002200592) which used voluntary work and voluntary workers undertaken in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston in the East Midlands as a case study.
The new study is Broadening the base of the volunteer workforce, an ESRC Impact Grant held by Professor Irene Hardill (Nottingham Trent University) and Dr Sue Baines (University of Newcastle upon Tyne). The new project seeks to inform policy making on broadening the volunteer base.

London – June 6th 2007 (National Volunteering Week) the House of Commons (sponsor Liz Blackman MP): the launch of a ‘Volunteering Toolkit’ for voluntary organisations is being accompanied by real examples of citizenship in action from Cotmanhay – these volunteers are really making a difference to others, the community as well as empowering themselves.
